Welcome to Equestrian Tack UK | A Huge Selection of Equestrian Bits | New and Used Horse Bits | All Types and Sizes of Equine Bits
Equestrian bits attach to your horse’s bridle and are your immediate point of contact and control. It is vital that the bit is properly fitted to your horse. A poorly fitting bit will cause chafing at the very least and may also lead to difficulties in communicating with your horse and behavioural problems such as head shaking.
There are a variety of different types of equestrian bits and most are available in stainless steel, vulcanite and rubber. The most commonly used type is, of course, the French link snaffle, which is jointed in the middle. Look out also for the Curb and Pelham bits.
Bits vary in severity and it is essential that you use the right type of bit for your horse. A bit that is too severe can lead to as many problems as a bit that is not sever enough! Bits are commonly measured in inches and it is very important that your bit is not too small. If you are in any doubt as to what is required we would strongly recommend seeking advice.
